So it’s finally spring, almost the school holidays and we are busily gathering the best ideas for parties in the west. Check in each week with us to find a new idea, spot or tip.
Do you have a dinosaur fan in your house? Lucky for you, the west now has it’s very own dinosaur! Her name is Mimi and she resides in Yarraville. We hosted a fun colouring-in party at the launch of Mimi. Holding your own dino-themed party is a cinch with such an awesome playground as backdrop. If not the park, Melbourne Museum with its free entry for kids, dinosaur exhibit and children’s area is the perfect destination.
Here are some of our tips:
1: Kids love furniture that is suited to them and looks festive. We absolutely love Melbourne company the Mini Party People. They have a huge range of reasonable and beautiful chairs, table and accessories that suit any party need. They kindly supplied these super cute ghost chairs, mini tables and topiary for our event. They even supplied astro turf for the tables to complete our dinosaur theme! If you head to their website, make sure you check out their bentwood chairs too! These come in a variety of beautiful colours and are very elegant. We were so impressed with the wonderful personal service and quality hire furniture.
2: Make sure you have an activity for the kids to do when they are tired from running around. Colouring-in or other craft activities are easy and cheap to organise. If you intend to have craft activities such as colouring in, keep things neat with a dedicated clipboard for each child. The clipboards stop paper from flying away, contain each child’s drawings separately for easy distribution later, and can be used as place markers. The clipboards can also be used for drawing activities; give the kids a list of natural objects to find (twigs, leaves, pebbles), let them explore the park and create ‘scientific’ botanical drawings of their finds.
3: Have fun with colour! We got some cheap dinosaurs and painted them in pop colours. The kids were instantly drawn to the table and had loads of fun drawing the dinos. Our tip: Make sure you paint them well ahead of time to allow for drying and ensure young kids don’t put the dinosaurs in their mouths!
4: Have fun making cute accessories for your party. We love this idea courtesy of Buggie and Jellie Bean. The tails can be used as decoration, for immersive play and can be given away as favours. If you have older kids, get them involved in making these prior to the big day. They could cut out the scales or get involved stuffing them.
