With a name like Roti Road, there was already a lot to love before stepping through the doors; we thought a ‘roti road’ sounded just as delicious as a ‘rocky road’, and boy did they prove that theory correct! This new Malaysian eatery fills a massive culinary gap in Footscray, and better still, it’s kid-friendly.
Only two weeks old, Roti Road is already drawing crowds with its Malaysian-Chinese yum cha menu (daily until 3pm), generous servings (at low prices), and a nightly dancing chef performance. What could be better than an affordable yum cha selection to please the fussiest kids, plus entertainment in the form of impressive roti-twirling dance moves?
If yum cha isn’t your thing, the mains are big and beautiful, and full of flavour. Everything is made from scratch at Roti Road, including the light, crispy roti. Our nasi lemak was fresh and satisfying, while the curry chicken laksa rivalled anything we’ve had in Flemington’s famed Malaysian restaurants. While there is no kids’ menu, as such, the selection of entrees offers little tummies variety and fulfilment. There’s lots of room and easy access for prams, while high chairs are plentiful, and thoughtfully delivered to diners with kids. (At our visit, there were no change tables for babies, but bathrooms were spacious.)
Little (and big) visitors will especailly appreciate the exciting drinks menu, which features some delicious-sounding choices such as ‘Oreo Bubble Tea’, ‘Milo Dinosaur’, and ‘Root Beer Spider’.
We were suitably impressed, and as a bonus, our bill was reduced by 10% – a grand opening special running until May 13th. We grabbed a take-away menu before we left, knowing that we’d soon be back for more, with or without the kids!
