In the burgeoning cafe strip of Somerville Road in Kingsville, locals are being treated to some top-notch home-style baking. We ventured out seeking a sugar hit and a caffeine fix, and left Olive Oil & Butter feeling very satisfied.
Like many of Kingsville’s eateries, Olive Oil & Butter is a relatively new establishment, having opened just 7 months ago. It has quickly gained notoriety from local residents for the amazing, traditional Greek sweets and pastries made in the impressive kitchens on site. You can just tell these delights were made with the best ingredients – they’re packed with flavour and made with care by the owner herself.
We arrived with pram in tow, and found that although the sliding entry door was a little tricky with one hand, there was plenty of room for prams. The bench seats with cushions along one wall was perfect for little diners, and there were highchairs available upon request.
While there weren’t any toys or books to keep little ones entertained, the food was the main attraction, with a variety of sweet and savoury items in the cabinet, kid-sized milkshakes, and a formidable breakfast menu featuring some mouth-watering traditional dishes such as Tiganites (Greek pancakes with pomegranate, honey, marscapone and candied walnuts), and the Cypriot Breakfast (Chef’s selction of cheese, cold cuts, olives and sweets).
Just make sure you leave room for dessert! All the traditional favourites are on offer, from baklava to the delectably delicate galaktobureko – even the filo pastry is made from scratch on site.Address: 196 Somerville Road, Kingsville Phone: 9315 1060 Monday – Friday: 7 am – 4 pm Satuday – Sunday: 8 am – 3:30 pm
