Having opened two months ago, we are a little late reviewing this fresh new establishment. I have been intending to write a review for quite a while, in fact I really have very little excuse, as I am there often and have devoured the delicious sushi on a number of occasions. I could say it was because I am busy, but my real excuse? My son and I usually rush home after buying our sushi pack and eat it as quickly as can. There is just no time to snap a photograph of the food in this frenzied routine.
On days that my son, a typical toddler, refuses to eat anything; I stop by Nami on my way home from our morning walk. It has become such a routine that when we pass by he points at the distinctive green sign expectantly. He is a big fan of the chicken teriyaki hand rolls, but will pretty much eat with gusto any of the sushi on offer. He is also partial to the sushi pizza (and so am I). No bread, or soggy cheese in sight, this is a crispy fish base topped with salmon, avocado, roe and crab. It is beautiful.
Nami offer traditional hand rolls as well as chef specials. The chef specials are reasonable creative, playful and varied. If you are after something different, I would recommend getting one of these. They are made to order on the spot, and are so yum. We especially like the crispy dragon eye roll. I have heard that they also make a mean healthy roll with tomato and cheese!
It is wonderful to see Japanese sushi represented in Footscray. I love the convenience, how fresh the offerings always are, the friendly service and the yummy healthy food. If you are around at the right time or order a chef special, you can even watch it being expertly prepared in the pint sized kitchen.
While you can eat in, there is not a huge amount of space for prams. I prefer to get mine as takeaway. The bite size portions are perfect for hungry toddlers and make easy portable meals. It has a thumbs up from our family. Now I must go and finish eating mine before it is nabbed!Nami Sushi 3 Paisley Street
